Messages is your inbox for conversations with event organisers. Each conversation is a private thread between you and one organiser, optionally tied to a specific event.

What you see on this screen

  • A list of message threads, most recent first, with a filled violet dot marking anything unread.
  • The sender's name and, if the message is tied to one, the event it is about.
  • How long ago the message arrived.

How to use it

  1. Click New Message to start a conversation.
  2. Pick the event it is about, if any — this determines which organiser receives it.
  3. Add a subject and your message, then send.
  4. Click any thread to open it, read the full message, and reply.

Good to know

  • Opening a message marks it read automatically.
  • The number badge next to Messages in the sidebar is your unread count — messages sent to you that you have not yet opened.
  • You can only message an event's organiser this way, not other staff or volunteers on the event.
  • If a message shows System instead of a name, it has no identifiable sender attached — you can still open and reply to it like any other thread.
  • The inbox loads 20 threads at a time; older conversations are one page-link away at the bottom, not lost.

Inside a thread, the original message and every reply keep their own exact timestamp (down to the minute), so a long back-and-forth is still easy to follow in order even after it has been open for days.

Troubleshooting

  • The New Message button does nothing when I click Send — subject and message body are both required; an empty one will bounce back with a validation error rather than send.
  • I can't find an old conversation — check the next page at the bottom of the inbox before assuming it is gone; nothing here auto-archives or deletes.
