When you need to reach the organiser of an event you are staffing, Messages is the way to do it — it is a direct, one-to-one thread with that event's organiser, not a group chat or announcement channel.

What this does and does not do

  • Every message is a private conversation between you and one organiser. There is no shared event channel, no role-based channel, and no way to message other staff directly through this screen.
  • Picking an event when you start a new message is what routes it to the right person — the message goes to that event's organiser.
  • Replies stay in the same thread, oldest first, so you and the organiser can go back and forth without losing context.

How to start a conversation

  1. Go to Messages and click New Message.
  2. Choose the event you are writing about.
  3. Give it a subject and write your message (up to 5,000 characters), then send.
  4. Watch for a reply — it will land back in the same thread and bump your unread count.

Good to know

  • The unread badge in the sidebar only counts messages sent to you, not ones you sent that are awaiting a reply.
  • Replying to a thread keeps it addressed to whoever started it — you do not need to re-pick the event each time.
  • A message and its subject are limited to 5,000 and 255 characters respectively — plenty for a real question, but not a place to paste a long document.
  • Picking no event when you start a message means it is not tied to any organiser through that link, so it is easy to end up not reaching anyone useful — always pick the event it is actually about.

Troubleshooting

  • I need to reach another staff member, not the organiser — there is no built-in way to do that from this screen; go through the organiser instead.
  • I sent a message but nobody has replied — there is no read receipt or response-time guarantee shown here; the thread will simply show a reply once the organiser sends one.
  • My message doesn't show which event it's about — that means no event was selected when it was sent; start a new one and pick the event this time so it is unambiguous.
