Understanding Fees & Pricing

Every paid booking on EventMann can carry up to three components on top of the ticket price: a platform commission, an optional service fee, and any tax you configure. This article breaks down where each one comes from, who ends up paying it, and works through a full example.

Platform commission

  • Set by your pricing plan, as a percentage.
  • Calculated on the ticket subtotal — the ticket face value before tax, and after any discount code or bundle price is applied.
  • Charged on every paid booking with no way to opt out of it — only who pays it, you or the attendee, is configurable.
  • Your exact rate is shown next to your plan name on your Profile page under Current Plan, and again on Settings → Billing & Payments → Billing.

The Absorb Booking Fees setting

Each event has an Absorb Booking Fees toggle on Manage → Payments & Fees for that event, on by default.

  • On (default) — the attendee pays exactly the ticket price you set, plus tax if any. The platform commission is deducted quietly from what reaches you; there is no separate fee line at checkout.
  • Off — the platform commission, plus a service fee if your plan has one, are added on top as separate checkout line items the attendee pays. You then receive the full ticket price.

Service fee

Some pricing plans also configure a service fee: a percentage of the subtotal plus a fixed amount per ticket. Unlike the commission, the service fee only ever exists when Absorb Booking Fees is off — it is added to the attendee's total and kept by the platform. With fees absorbed, no service fee is charged to anyone at all.

Stripe's own processing fee

Separately from everything above, Stripe deducts its own card-processing fee when a charge settles into your connected account. This is between you and Stripe, is not configured inside EventMann, and does not appear on any EventMann screen. Check your Stripe Dashboard for your actual rate; it varies by country and card type.

Worked example (illustrative rates)

Assume a €40.00 ticket, a plan commission of 5%, and an illustrative service fee of 2% + €0.50 per ticket. Check your own plan's real rates on your Profile page before relying on these numbers.

Free events

Free events never carry a platform commission, service fee, or Stripe fee of any kind, for you or your attendees.

Good to know

  • Tax, set per event under Manage → Payments & Fees, is calculated on the subtotal and is separate from everything above.
  • A discount code or ticket bundle reduces the subtotal first; the commission and any service fee are then calculated on that discounted amount, not the original ticket price.

Troubleshooting

  • Attendees are complaining about an unexpected fee at checkout — check whether Absorb Booking Fees is off for that event; turning it on removes the visible fee line (the commission still applies, just out of your net instead).
  • My net does not match subtotal minus commission — remember Stripe's own processing fee is deducted separately and is not reflected in EventMann's numbers.
