How to Apply for Events

This walks through the full lifecycle of an application to work an event, from clicking Apply through to actually being handed a shift.
Submitting an application
- Open Browse Events and find the event you want to work.
- Click Apply to Volunteer. That's the whole submission — there's no cover note or interview step to fill in.
- The event now shows an Applied tag on your Browse Events card, and appears under Active Events on your dashboard.
What the statuses mean
- Applied — submitted, waiting on the organizer. You can still cancel it yourself.
- Approved — the organizer has accepted you as staff for this event. You can no longer cancel it from Browse Events; if you need to back out, message the organizer.
- Rejected — the organizer didn't select you this time. The tag stays visible rather than disappearing.
Good to know
- Being Approved makes you staff for the event, not for a specific shift. An organizer still has to assign you to one of their shifts — a date, time, and location — before anything shows up in My Shifts. Don't treat “Approved” alone as confirmation of when to turn up.
- You can apply to more than one event at a time, and the same event can only be applied to once — the Apply button disappears as soon as your application exists.
- If your staff profile is still pending admin approval, you can still apply; that review is separate from an organizer approving you for their event.
- If your staff profile has been suspended, you can't apply to new events — the Apply button will refuse the request with a message explaining that. Contact support if you think that's wrong. A suspension is separate from a rejected application and from the pending-approval review above.
Troubleshooting
- I was approved but nothing appears in My Shifts — normal, and common. Approval and shift assignment are two separate steps done by the organizer; message them if it's been a while and the event is close.
- I applied by mistake — go back to Browse Events and click Cancel Application, as long as it still shows Applied.
- I want to reapply after cancelling — cancelling removes the application entirely, so the Apply button reappears straight away and you can submit again.
- Applying fails with a suspended-profile message — your staff profile has been suspended; contact support to find out why and whether it can be reinstated.
